Assignment City Museums Sint-Niklaas (Belgium)
The assignment from City Museums in Sint-Niklaas consists of three parts. The supplied goods are intended for the ‘Man and Matter’ storyline at the renewed City Museum Zwijgershoek. As the name suggests, the museum predominantly focuses on verbal recollections of historic facts via a human voice. Three storylines are represented: an archaeological section, a socio-economic section and a lifestyle section. In addition to finds from the 16th and 17th century, an economic section about the textile industry and a section about the celebration of saints, there is also a public depot where museum stocks are stored.
The first part of the assignment entails creating a 17th century gentleman’s costume for a bust, with the gloves and socks being displayed separately. Black suiting is used for the costume and a series of buttons are used which are similar to the provided example.
The second part involves creating a medieval pilgrim’s hat, in keeping with the provided example.
In order to allow visitors to learn more about the various fabrics and accessories, we will create a few sample fabrics (silk, velvet, broché, suiting, wool etc.) borders, ribbons, frills etc. for the museum.
